What does cataract surgery involve?
It is a matter of replacing the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens through which the eye focuses rays of light onto the retina, with an artificial lens that performs the same function and lasts for the rest of your life.
With cataract surgery, are both eyes operated on at the same time?
No. We do not normally operate on both eyes at the same time. We usually leave about one week between operating on one eye and the other.

What does the procedure involve?
It is a matter of replacing the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens through which the eye focuses rays of light onto the retina, with a multifocal intraocular lens that performs the same function and lasts for the rest of your life. This makes it possible to restore your near, intermediate and distance vision without the need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
Is it necessary to stay overnight?
No. It is an outpatient procedure that is performed under topical anaesthesia by applying eye drops. You will be able to go home on your own.
If I have surgery for presbyopia, will it prevent me getting cataracts in the future?
Yes. Implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens will permanently prevent cataracts.
