Presbyopia | Innova ocular
When does eyestrain occur?
The symptoms of this condition can appear after the age of 40.
Can it be prevented?
No. It is an age-related disorder, so it is almost impossible to prevent.
What does the procedure involve?
It is a matter of replacing the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens through which the eye focuses rays of light onto the retina, with a multifocal intraocular lens that performs the same function and lasts for the rest of your life. This makes it possible to restore your near, intermediate and distance vision without the need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
It can also be corrected by laser surgery, depending on your situation and expectations.
How long does the procedure take?
It only takes a few minutes. It is a very quick procedure that will take no more than 30 minutes. After this you are free to leave the clinic on your own.
Will I feel pain during the operation?
No. Most patients only feel slight pressure during the operation and mild stinging during the following few hours.
Are both eyes operated on at the same time?
No. We do not operate on both eyes at the same time. We usually leave about one week between operating on one eye and the other.
Is it necessary to stay overnight?
No. It is an outpatient procedure that is performed under topical anaesthesia by applying eye drops. You will be able to go home on your own.
When can I return to my normal life?
You can return to normal life about one week after the operation. However, certain precautionary measures should be taken to protect against any impact and strenuous physical activities should be avoided, particularly during the first month.
If I have surgery for presbyopia, will it prevent me getting cataracts in the future?
Yes. Implantation of a multifocal intraocular lens will permanently prevent cataracts. No. Not if the technique used is laser.
Can I have surgery if I have myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism?
Yes. What is more, we can treat presbyopia, different refractive defects and cataracts all in the same operation.
