How do I know if I have cataracts?
At early stages, when the cataract is not very advanced, you may notice some clouding of your vision. When the cataract is more advanced, your vision becomes more blurred, making it difficult to carry out daily activities.
Can they come back after the operation?
No. The results of the operation are permanent.
What does the procedure involve?
It is a matter of replacing the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens through which the eye focuses rays of light onto the retina, with an artificial lens that performs the same function and lasts for the rest of your life.
Will I feel pain during the operation?
No. Most patients only feel slight pressure during the operation and mild stinging during the following few hours.
Are both eyes operated on at the same time?
No. We do not normally operate on both eyes at the same time. We usually leave about one week between operating on one eye and the other.
Is it necessary to stay overnight?
No. It is an outpatient procedure that is performed under topical anaesthesia by applying eye drops. You will be able to go home on your own.
When can I return to my normal life?
You can return to normal life about one week after the operation. However, certain precautionary measures should be taken to protect against any impact and strenuous physical activities should be avoided, particularly during the first month.
What can I expect after the operation?
For the three weeks after surgery you should follow treatment with eye drops, anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics.
Can cataracts and presbyopia be treated in the same operation?
Yes. By replacing the crystalline lens, the natural lens through which the eye focuses rays of light onto the retina, and implanting an intraocular lens that makes it possible to restore your near, intermediate and distance vision without the need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
